Villain Chat: Discrimination

I suppose it’s a broad term, Fangirls, within it are multitudes. However, in my eyes, it’s the biggest bad guy there is. There’s no villain out there meaner, stronger, or more prevalent in this world. I like to try to be more light hearted in the articles I write here, but discrimination is something I can’t find myself slapping a brighter tone on. Except maybe a hopeful one, in praying that it one day won’t have such a presence. I’m not trying to preach some peace & love hippie dippy shit, Fangirls. I’m just saying that this shit has got to stop.

It’s been too much, in too many places, for too long. Look at the news, look at history, everything has come out of a place of discrimination. Religion, race, class; it’s discrimination against those types of things that cause everything to boil over & erupt. It triggers all of these awful events, but it also (hopefully) promotes change & growth. However, people shouldn’t have to suffer so badly just to be respected.

I’m sure most of you are well aware of everything going on in Ferguson. I don’t want to be another article just repeating back everything that’s going on, but if the events are unknown to you, navigate away from this for a minute and see this terrible shit that’s going on. It puts a giant, knotted up pit in my stomach to see things like this happening. What pains me the most is to know that this is happening now. In 2014, in a country that was founded on the desire for freedom, and that claims to have achieved that.

I’d like to share something very important with you all, Fangirls. There’s a speech that was given by President John F. Kennedy that’s become very important to me. However, it’s also something that makes me more upset than anything. The speech is a little long, but I ask you to please watch this whole thing. Please excuse Kennedy’s politically uncorrect language, keep in mind that this was a while back.

This speech was given over 40 years ago, Fangirls. Yet, think of how relevant it still is to our present society. That is not alright. It makes so many feelings swell inside of me. Think of this speech, it’s all too easy to imagine it being given today. Add in your choice of variables from the whole host of communities being discriminated against, and it’s still rings so true. Black, brown, gay, whatever. These words hold so much truth. Of course, some of Kennedy’s statements will forever remain relevant. But it’s the ones about the state of the country, the hate, the prejudice, that should no longer be something of fact.

All are created equal, Fangirls, it’s in the fucking Constitution. We should not still be struggling with trying to keep the words of that document alive. It is the basis of our country, we should not have strayed so far from the vision of what this country should be.

When you look at this from a world wide scale, it’s just the same. People being denied basic rights, beaten, killed, humiliated because discrimination is something that people cannot let go. We shouldn’t all need to fight just to prove who has the correct belief. None of this needs to happen. Discrimination needs to go away.

It’s really that simple. But in executing that is a very different story.

I had to get real on this one, Fangirls. This stuff boils inside of me. Thank you for listening and fuck discrimination.
