Happy New Year, Fangirls! Don’t you think resolutions can be a bit foolish? I think they tend to make people upset about the things they didn’t do more than inspire them.
Every year, my mother makes a resolution to lose weight and therefore be happier. My mother is a very thin woman, but is unhappy with her body. This is true of many women, and I’ve seen lots of Facebook status’ about how women will lose weight so people will like them more, as their resolutions. But at this point in the year, people remember their failed resolutions and feel worse about themselves.
This year, I challenge you all to do what I’m doing: skip the resolutions.
Now, growing and changing and becoming healthier are almost always good things. Becoming a better person mentally and physically is a very common goal, but what if instead of berating ourselves over not reaching tangible goals, we reward ourselves for the good things in our lives?
All over tumblr and twitter I’ve seen pictures of these absolutely lovely little jars people are making for what they’re calling “rememberlutions.” The idea is to make a jar, and every time something good happens, you write it on a slip of paper and drop it in. At the end of 2015, you go through your jar, and remember all of the lovely things that you did and happened that year.
I think, if it’s kept up with, this is a wonderful idea. At the end of the year, we could all use a reminder of the good things that happened. This seems like a very concrete way to do it. I am making jars for my direct family members; we have all gone through some difficult things in 2014, and we should be reminded of the great things this time next year. I would like to use my Polaroid Instant camera along with my jar, so I have more than just paper to remind me of the great things in my life.
I think all of you Fangirls are phenomenal, and am so glad to be starting another New Year with you all. I hope you didn’t party too hard last night, and your year brings many positive things to put in your jar.
